Flash setup question?

I have a canon 40d, and I needed to use a flash for my photography. I was rummaging around the house the other day and came across an old Vivitar 3500 flash. It works fine with the camera, but I want to use the flash off camera, hopefully with a softbox. The flash doesnt have a pc-sync port, so whats the best solution? thanks
