Overdrive Guitar Pedals?

I have a Randall RX120 half stack and I love it. I love the distortion, it gives like a pantera/metallica sort of sound to your playing. But it just seems like its not enough distortion at times. So I didn't want to get a distortion pedal cause i like how my amp distortion sounds so i decided to get an overdrive pedal. I was thinking about buying the mxr zakk wylde over drive pedal. I watched some reviews on it and it is just insane how good it boost your amp. but the problem is they were all with marshall tube amps. So since my amp is solid state, what kind of difference would it make? I just want it to give my amp some more distortion and gain. So if you have any info on this pedal or anything let me know.
