How do I know when I have found Jesus Christ...?

I was raised Christian and as I got older lost my faith. I respect Christianity but what I haven't quite figured out was the whole concept of finding and accepting Jesus Christ. To be quite honest it seems that Christianity often strays from Jesus' spiritual teachings of oneness with God through unconditional compion and mercifulness. The more I read the Bible the less I am motivated to return to Christianity as I seem to be having trouble finding the Christian Jesus in the Bible. That being said, how does on know when they find Jesus Christ? What does it mean to find him?
