Disconnected from GTA 4 and RDR?

I know a lot of people experience this problem but I haven't found a solution yet. I can play other matches (cops n crooks, team deathmatch, grab the bag) but getting into free roam takes forever. Also, it seems that I can only get into free roam at night; not during the day. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I am playing on the 360.
